Day 4 (lock down)
Friday 27th March - bike *** - Felixstowe to Levington Marina – Sunny but
breezy:(
It was harder today to stay at home as the wind was blowing nicely from the
NE sunny too but not good tides for The Dip so wasn’t too disappointed
not to be able to go out windsurfing, I think I will have to get used to
not sailing for several months to come especially with the death rate
soaring, very worrying times indeed! Mag had been working up to going
shopping and actually had a relativity stress free visit to Lidl and got
enough for ten days including getting some things for some elderly friends!
I did my exercises in the garden again, that’s every day this week and
was keen to get out on the bike while it is still allowed and with Boris
and probably a lot of the cabinet being tested positive for Covid – 19
things are bound to get much much worse with the restrictions tightened
even further I suspect! With the weather taking a turn for the worse at the
weekend with strong northerly winds and cold I was keen to get out on the
bike, avoiding as many people as possible. I had heard that Levington
Marina had been closed so I decided to head over there to check it out
despite the fresh breeze, not an ideal cycling day! I headed through the
Cavendish Park, over the A 14 dock spur coming out at the Cordys Lane. The
car park for the reserve at Trimley Marshes was full of cars, what people
don’t understand about NONE ESSENTIAL TRAVEL !!! where you are not
supposed to use your car to go somewhere to walk your dog etc which is one
of the main reasons we are not windsurfing at the moment! It’s a bit of a
bumpy trek down to the Reserve but I made it in the end and climbed up onto
the seawall to get a better look of the River Orwell with the tide high and
not a boat to be seen on the water! It was very quiet and I only saw one
other walker as I biked to Levington stopping at the three dead trees to
take some pics. Then up onto the cliffs where I sat for a moment to take in
one of the best views in Suffolk, straight up the river towards Ipswich.
Reaching the marina, I was surprised to see it was quite busy with loads of
cars and people working on boats and the dredger out in the channel! The
barrier was defiantly up so if you could sail you could get in. I went
around to the windsurfing spot and sat on the seat before heading back home
along the roads into a strong headwind to start too! So, an OK ride being
out for 2 hrs 30 mins covering 13 miles but too breezy to be good and also
not great my myself, missing Mag again but she had been on her early
morning walk along the prom so didn’t want to push her luck!
